The differences between stone grinding and polishing and waxing and polishing

There are different options when it comes to stone and marble care. Crystal surface treatment is one of the most effective methods for maintaining stone. This process preserves the natural texture of the stone as it doesn't alter its underlying structure. After crystal surface treatment, the stone's molecules become denser, resulting in a significantly enhanced glossiness. Conversely, waxing the stone can impart a bright sheen, creating a water-soluble protective film. While this enhances the stone's brightness, its protective effects are limited, and it demonstrates poor weather resistance and less-than-ideal stain prevention.

Fundamental Differences:

1. Stone Grinding and Polishing is a preliminary or essential step in stone processing, utilizing pressure from mechanically driven grinding discs along with the chemical interactions of inorganic acids and metal oxides. This physical and chemical process occurs on relatively smooth marble surfaces, forming a new, highly luminous crystal layer. This layer boasts an exceptional brilliance, measuring between 90-100 degrees, and it is a modified compound crystal layer of the stone's surface (1-2mm thick).

2. Waxing and Polishing serves as a precursor and was a popular maintenance measure in the 1980s and early 1990s. It involves applying a thin layer of a polymer, a combination of acrylic resin and emulsion, commonly referred to as floor wax. This layer is then polished to achieve a shinier resin coating.

Visual Distinctions:

- Stone Grinding and Polishing results in a high level of clarity and gloss after surface care and polishing. It enhances wear resistance, making it less susceptible to scratches. This process truly showcases the functional value of the stone.

- Waxing and Polishing lead to lower clarity, resulting in a surface that appears dull and blurry. It offers less wear resistance, is sensitive to water, and can lead to scratches, ultimately diminishing the inherent appeal of the stone.

Extending Lifetime:

- After Stone Grinding and Polishing, the pores of the stone remain unsealed, allowing the stone to breathe both internally and externally. This prevents deterioration and provides a degree of waterproofing and stain resistance.

- In contrast, after Waxing and Polishing, the stone's pores are completely sealed, preventing it from breathing. This can lead to the eventual deterioration of the stone.

Real-world Operation:

- After stone grinding and polishing, the gloss can reach 90-100 degrees, restoring the stone to its original brilliance. This process saves time, effort, and costs while enhancing durability.

- Stone grinding and polishing, due to its advanced principles and methods, is set to replace traditional waxing and polishing. This method not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of marble but also prolongs its lifespan.

In conclusion, stone grinding and polishing for crystal surface treatment in our opinion is the superior choice, offering a combination of aesthetic enhancement and durability, while waxing and polishing are gradually phasing out of the market due to their limitations in terms of protection and visual appeal.
